Title: Taking advantage of your Speedlite.

Unzip this thing and open index.html

I love doing this things.

This small guide is aimed to those who have been wondering what the hell is the attractiveness of the Speedlites or those who are thinking in investing into this piece of equipment.

I was talking with `insaneone about making more tutorials, now that I have the ` I feel a lot more responsability towards the community, so, I'll be working on more complex tutorials in the future.

What you need to know before reading this guide? Basic photography stuff like apperture and speed how do they interact with themselves and creativity, nothing else.

This tutorial or mini-guide covers some features of the 430 EX Speedlite:

:bulletgreen: The Basic use of the Speedlite.

:bulletgreen: How the E-TTL mode works, advantages and disadvantages.

:bulletgreen: Exposure compensation with the E-TTL system.

:bulletgreen: Using the Speedlite indoors and difusing light.

:bulletgreen: Flexibility with the Speedlite and the Extension cord.

What is missing and what is yours to find:

:bulletred: Exposure bracketing.

:bulletred: High speed sync.

:bulletred: Deep research about flexibility with AV and TV modes.

:bulletred: Second courtain.

What's next?

:bulletblue: Speedlite Master and Slave modes. Advantages and disadvantages.

:bulletblue: Speedlite communication and infrared triggering mode.

:bulletblue: Movil studio.

:bulletblue: Aspect ratio with a group of 2 Speedlites.

:bulletblue: Using Speedlites with umbrellas, softboxes and other accesories.

:bulletblue: Stroboscopic flash with master unit (I'm not so sure about this one)

And whatever comes next.

This might be also of help to the Speedlight users, I've heard lots of good stuff about Nikon flashes, specially with their new camera and its built in remote triggering.

If you don't own a Speedlite and you own another flash brand this guide might help you to explore different techniques with it.

A flash is a great accesory if you need more light, don't be afraid of it, it works for YOU!

Also I know I could be doing something easier about the studio setup with a couple of alienbees but one of the main advantages of using the speedlite is their size and portability; When I get the alienbees I will do an alienbee guide.

Hope this thing helps someone. Cheers.

In addition to the speedlite usage.. do you use/take advantage of bounce cards? not reflectors like silver or gold, which are good but a white bounce card to bounce the light from an angle at your subject.

Yes, but in a different way, whenever I bounce light on the ceiling I try to have a small reflector or white card below the subject so I can get even light in all his/her face. I don't like using the bounce cards at the sides, dunno why.

I like that triflector effect I've seen in some websites, I'm going to try having a white card, then tinfoil paper then another card right below the subject. I'll see how it works and I'll let you know.

are you using boom arms? or just leaning the cards up on something? I use a 3 foot bounce card on a boom right next to the face sometimes and only one studio light. sometimes I just two cards, one at the feet angled up to the face with just one light.

Lately I've been using also 3 foot bounce cards held by clamps but in normal tripod stands, as suprising as this might sound I haven't found any single boom arm here in mexico which sucks, I'm going to build a special base for it.

Me, I prefer light from above, I have a small umbrella that can be turned into a softbox and I've been using that and the reflector from below, in a couple of hours I will need to create a small contained box filled with light from every angle, if I like the result I might post a picture or 2.
